ABOUT
Le Corde (the invisible pull) is a sound work of a child translating the letters of the words ‘double blind’ into morse code whilst voicing each letter phonetically. Upon hearing the representation of the letter /l/ in various syllables, the child unconsciously deviates from pronouncing the phonetic [ɛl] in the word ‘blind’ with it’s alveolar lateral approximant [lɫ], which simultaneously voices the grammatical error of the French feminine noun ‘Le’ in the title. Contrasting the letters pronounced phonetically, ‘Le’:[lɫ] sounded through the vocal chords emerges tonal, subverting the French ‘Corde’ into the English ‘chord’, revealing the blind in the title ‘Le Corde’ as the tone of the pronounced grammatical error ‘chord: [lɫ]’. The double blind is activated by the invisible pull of a child to deviate from expressing a letter phonetically, metaphorically objectifying ‘la corde’, French for ‘the rope’, as a mechanism that can generate morse code by the sounds it conjures, operating the opening and closing of interior blinds.
